IV. REPORTS
A. Youth Report – M. Ammann reported that announcements will be made over the school television network requesting new youth members to sign up for the Recycling Committee. Both of our current youth members will be reporting to Hunterdon Central High School in the Fall.
B. Depot Report – K. Ostrander was absent this evening. But, he did e-mail the report for the June Depot Day to all. M. Petrus stated that he set up the traffic cones in a pattern to allow two rows of incoming traffic. He also suggested that we remind residents of the two different size bottles that are collected for Terracycle: 20 oz. and two litter soda bottles only – NO water bottles. Secretary stated that reminders were sent to the VIP about this fact. Approximately 66 vehicles were serviced. The dumpsters were placed in the correct positions in the parking lot. Paper/cardboard dumpster was completely full and the glass/plastic one was 60% full. One large bag was collected of plastic bottles for Terracycle. A five gallon bucket was approximately 80% full of household batteries. No problems were encountered.
Depot Leader is
needed for August 2008.
C. Environmental Commission Report – M. Petrus announced that the Environmental Commission received the grant from ANJEC to start work on conservation easements. However, the one applied for Clawson Park Wetlands Area was not approved. M. Petrus stated that he has been in contact with Ms. Ernst (Environmental Club at East Amwell School) and she requested help on the collection of certain items (cell phones, ink cartridges, DVDs, etc.) for their fund raising project. He inquired if a container could be set up at Depot Days. Members discussed – wondering if someone from the school would be present at each Depot Day. W. Harrison stated that this is something that would have to be advertised so that residents could start collecting these items. Further discussion followed.
D. Township Committee Report – T. Martin was absent. Thus, no report was received.
E. Internet Recycling Prices – K. Martin was absent. Thus, no report was received. F. SWAC Report – W. Harrison stated that SWAC did not meet. Thus, no report was given.
G. Other – W. Harrison reported on the collection of recyclables from both Clawson Park and the Snack Shack/baseball games. Clawson Park Advisory Committee, of which he is a
member, met. He stated that he will continue to monitor the recycling done at the park. More recycling cans are needed at the park.
- 2 –
G. Miller recently sent a report on the amount of recyclables he collected at the three municipal ball fields. He requested that the Recycling Committee consider purchasing more containers, specifically for cans/bottles. Members discussed. Clean Communities Grant Fund monies could be used for this purpose. M. Petrus made the motion that we allocate $500 maximum for the purchase of new recycling containers. M. DiDonato seconded the motion and all were in favor. M. DiDonato and W. Harrison will make arrangements to meet and check out if Home Depot has any. M. Petrus volunteered to call Raritan Valley Waste Disposal to see if they have any available.
V. OLD BUSINESS
VI. Invoices – none received.

VIII. NEW BUSINESS
A. Metal Recycling – M. Petrus explained the reasons he requested this topic. Considering the high prices currently being paid for heavy metals, he wondered if there was a way we could have a dumpster installed for continuous collection from our residents. W. Harrison explained that we do collect heavy metals at Spring Clean-Up Day. Problems might occur with a dumpster being left for a long period. No secure yard is available. People tend to dump their garbage. Also we would have to factor in the costs of transporting the dumpster to a drop off point.
B. Overall Accounting/Receipts for Recycling – T. Martin was absent this evening.
IX. Open to the Public - K. Ammann was present this evening–question received re: Terracycle
X. Open to the Committee – No comments received.
