After years of trying, East Amwell was very fortunate to receive a state grant of $180,000 for sidewalks in downtown Ringoes. This project goes back to 2003, when we first discussed improved sidewalks in Ringoes with the county. The purpose is to provide safe pedestrian access within Ringoes, especially to Clawson Park and the municipal ballfields.
The county drew up plans in 2004 and we are providing them on our website so you can get an idea of the scope of the project. Please note: These are NOT final plans! The county is responsible for planning and construction but the funds come from our grant. Because the total project is likely to far exceed our grant, we will complete it in phases. We hope that funding will allow the first phase to be the construction of sidewalks along the west side of John Ringo Road, crossing before Larison Lane, and continuing to Clawson Park access at Iron Horse Drive. The second phase would be a sidewalk along the north side of Wertsville Road to the ballfields.
The county is now working on a phased approach and will provide estimates. We will continue to inform you about this exciting project as plans move forward. The likely start of construction won’t be until the spring or summer of 2012.
Hunterdon County Engineering is asking for public comments on the sidewalk maps they have prepared. A large copy of the plans are on file in the Municipal Clerk’s Office for view during regular business hours. Please download a comment form by clicking here and provide your comments to the municipal clerk at tstahl@eastamwelltownship.comThe County is looking for comments during a 30 day period from 8/18 through 9/19, and the Clerk will forward all of them to the County by that date.
