Services
There are several Municipal Services available to all Township residents.
We are located at the corner of Route 202 and
Wertsville Road.
Lock box for delivery of tax payments, licensing
fees, and letters. It is located
outside the Municipal building, to the right of the front door.
Notary
Public - available Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. to notarize your
document.
Evening
hours for notary and clerk’s office every Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Dog
Licensing - All dogs are required by the State to have a license and they are to
be renewed annually. In East Amwell
the license expires January 31 of each year.

WHERE TO APPLY
v
You
may apply in the New Jersey municipality in which either applicant resides and the License is valid
in any municipality in the State of New Jersey.
v
If
neither of the applicants are residents of New Jersey, the application is to be
submitted in the municipality where the ceremony will be performed and the
license is only valid in the
municipality where the ceremony will take place.
v
Be
18 years of age, except that applicants under the age of 18 may enter into a
Civil Union/Marriage with parental consent.
Applicants under the age of 16 must obtain parental consent and have the
consent approved in writing by any judge of the Superior Court, Chancery
Division or Family Part.
v If
you are having a ceremony outside of New Jersey, you must contact the State
where your ceremony is
taking place for information on
how to obtain a Marriage License.
WHAT TO BRING WHEN APPLYING
v
Proof
of residency such as a Driver’s License, County or State I.D., or Utility
Bill(s).
v
Identification
- Birth certificate or a valid Passport.
v
If
one or both applicants are divorced, had your marriage annulled, or you were in
a former union and it was legally dissolved, bring a copy of the final decree(s)
with you. If you were in a domestic
partnership that was terminated please bring a copy of the termination.
v
Certified
death certificate if one or both applicants are widowed.
v
You
must know and provide your parents’ full names, including mother’s Maiden
name, and birth place of each parent, only the state or the country if they were
born outside of the United States.
v
The
applicants should know the date of the ceremony, the municipality and County
where the event will occur, and the name, address and phone number of the person
performing the ceremony.
v
A
witness that knows both applicants who is 18 years of age or older.
v
Social
Security numbers.
v
FEE:
$28.00 check or cash at the time of application.
v
Blood
tests are no longer required in the State of New Jersey.
WHEN TO APPLY
v
The
recommendation is to come in at least two weeks before the ceremony.
v
If
applying separately, the same witness must be present.
v
Once
you fill out the application there is a 72 hour waiting period between the
filing of the application and the issuance of the license. (Remember, we are
closed on weekends, which means you must apply by Tuesday in order to pick up
the license on Friday for a Friday night, Saturday or Sunday marriage).
v
The
marriage license is good for 30 days from the date of pick up.
v
The
East Amwell Township Registrar’s office is open 8:30a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday -
Friday and Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
v
An
application is available in our office (the form may be downloaded from the
State website, www.state.nj.us/health/vital/index.shtml.
You may fill out the application, but DO
NOT SIGN the application.
The application must be signed in the presence of the issuing authority,
while under oath. The License will
be recorded in the town where the ceremony took place, and certified copies can
be obtained from them also.
*It should be noted that
federal agencies DO NOT recognize
Civil Unions, and will not use a certified copy of a Civil Union as proof of
name change. Federal Agencies
include: Social Security and Passport Agencies.

your marriage license. No waiting
period required.
Domestic
Partnership
Couples wishing to register a Domestic Partnership
must be of the same sex OR opposite sex who are both 62 years of age or older
and provided that the couple meets the requirements.
* Same sex couples currently
registered as Domestic Partners may enter into a Civil Union with the same
person without terminating their Domestic Partnership first.
If the Domestic Partnership was registered in New Jersey, it
automatically terminates when the Civil Union is registered.
If the Domestic Partnership was registered in another state, that
state’s laws determine the validity of the Domestic Partnership.
TO REGISTER
v
To register a Domestic Partnership, the applicants
must obtain an Affidavit of Domestic Partnership.
The affidavit must be completed and signed by both applicants at the same
time, in the presence of a notary public. The Affidavit does not have to be obtained (or
filed) in the municipality in which the domestic partners reside.
v
Domestic partnerships are not considered registered
until the Notarized Affidavit has been filed with a Local Registrar’s
Office and the Certificate of Domestic Partnership has been issued.
WHAT TO BRING WHEN
REGISTERING
v
Valid identification that establishes name, age and
date of birth. Government issued documents including a certified copy of a birth
certificate, driver’s license, military identification or state/county
identification card.
v
Proof of residence. If residence is outside New
Jersey, at least one of the applicants must provide proof of membership in a New
Jersey State-administered Retirement System.
v
Proof of joint financial responsibility, such as a
joint mortgage agreement or lease, joint bank account, joint ownership of a
vehicle, or designation of one of the persons as primary beneficiary of the
other’s
will, insurance or retirement plan.
v
If either applicant was previously in a domestic
partnership, dissolution papers which show it has been at least 180 days since
the previous domestic partnership was terminated or a death certificate of the
previous partner.
v
If either applicant was previously married, in a
civil union or in a domestic partnership you must provide a divorce decree,
dissolution papers or death certificate of most recent partner or spouse.
v
FEE:
$28.00 check or cash at the time of application.
Requesting
a Certified Copy
A certified copy of
a vital statistic record event can only be issued to those individuals who have
a direct link to the individual(s) named on the vital record event.
The requestor must be able to identify the vital statistic record and
provide proof of his identify and relationship.
In order
to request a Certified Copy of a Birth, Civil Union, Death, Marriage, or
Domestic Partnership certificate the event must have taken place in East Amwell
Township.
To
obtain a Certified Copy in Person:
If you are requesting a vital statistic record for someone
other than yourself, you must be an immediate member of the family. This
includes parents, legal guardians, spouses, children, grandchildren, and
siblings of legal age. Please note that a grandparent, aunt, uncle,
mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law cannot request a
vital statistic record.

1. The person requesting
the vital statistic record needs to provide identification.
2. Acceptable forms of identification include:
a. Photo Driver's License
b. A
Non-Photo Driver's License & an alternate form of identification which has
the
same address*
c. Photo ID and an alternate form of identification which has the same address*
*Two alternate forms of identification:
Such as Vehicle Registration, Insurance Card, Voter Registration,
Passport, GreenCard, County or State, School ID, Utility Bill(s).
3. There
is a fee of $5.00 per certified copy. Payment
can be made by cash (exact change will be appreciated) or a check made payable to the “Township
of East Amwell”.

Dog
Licensing
WHEN TO APPLY
v
All
dogs living in the Township must be licensed.
If the dog is a puppy, it does not have to be licensed until seven months
old. The puppy must have received a
one year rabies shot before the license can be issued.
v
All licenses are renewable during January and
February. Owners of unlicensed dogs
will be charged a late fee of $5.00 per month per dog beginning on March 1st.

An
exemption can be granted if a licensed veterinarian certifies in writing that a
rabies inoculation would be detrimental to a sick dog or one under special
treatment.

return of your license - also please mark the outside of the payment envelope
